One area that was stressed wasthe importance of recognizing risk and learning how to evaluate the impact of risk on profit — the key to minimizing project loss, understanding contracts and killer terms. Effectively developing the skills to manage risk is the foundation of a successful, profitable project.
Other topics covered were: • elements of claims & unpaid change orders • scheduling issues faced by contractors • how to be an effective negotiator & resolve disagreements without conflict • project management • skills & techniques necessary for managing changes • various aspects of documentation
Lennenberg posed a management problem for the group to consider in terms of risk, documentation and bidding. He went on to offer a 'contract' problem and then, an actual 'job' problem for participants to solve.
